What is Multiple Sclerosis?

What is Multiple Sclerosis?
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease. It is believed to be caused by the body's attack on the covering of the nerves (myelin). It causes progressive muscle weakness, numbness, and can eventually lead to being wheelchair bound. There are some new medications that can be used to reduce the severity and frequency of the flare-ups, but there is no cure. It is usually not life-threatening, but can cause many quality of life issues.
