It is synthetic heroin, it is used to wean heroin addicts off of heroin. Lately it has been prescribed as a painkiller because it is cheaper than oxycontin or vicodin. It stays in the system for 58 hours, this is why many people who are abusing it, o.d. When a heroin addict is being prescribed the methodone for heroin withdrawal it is very controlled, they are only given small amounts, and have to return to the methodone clinic almost daily to receive their doses. 3098 deaths were cause by methodone overdoses in 2004. In light of the recent deaths, in my opinion it should be outlawed as a painkiller.

An opiate based prescription drug prescribed to heroin addicts. It relieves the symptoms of withdrawel. It also also addictive and if prescribed continually without reducing the dose, it can actually be worse to come off than heroin is!
It's a liquid, similar to heroin, given to heroin addicts to help them through withdrawal. As the withdrawal period passes, so does the need to take methadone. Unfortunately, some people become addicted to methadone or take it with other medications, especially antidepressants in order to become "high."
It is used for herione addicts to help deal with the withdrawl symptoms. However, it is also a powerful pain killer. It is often used for terminally ill patients.
