What infection control measures do you undertake when giving out medication?
Wash your hands - wash your hands - wash your hands. Oh and use a clean pot or syringe not one that you've just run under the tap.
I take it you are refering to oral medication ??? wash hands between each patient, use a clean disposable pot for all medication, use patients own medication as much as possible.
i am not in that field, but i do work in a hospital and we are reminded daily that to control infection that you must wash your hands throughly, so i would think the best thing you could do is wear gloves when giving out medication.
Are you referring to intrvenous drugs??
Under normal circumsatances all you need do is wash your hands thoroughly before you give the medication.
If you are referring to intravenous drugs, then you need to be very sterile and wear sterile rubber gloves, and make sure everything you use is sterile.
Gloves .. plastic apron .. disposal in the appropriate places when finished .. be more specfic what area are u working in ?
Ahh yeah and like everyone else said wash ya hands !!
Wash hands, gloves are an option, but meds are fiddley.
Ensure medication pots have been washed in iodine based disifectant.
Dispense meds straight into pot from packet.
Encourage patients to wash hnds.
Use clean pot for each patient.
Don't use the end of a biro to stir crushed meds in water as I have seen done!
First of all give your hands a really good wash and that will help to cut down the risk of infection.
