What exactly do you do with suppositories once they're inserted? Do you take it back out? Or just leave it?
They leave it..LOL. Actually, what happens is body heat (remember internal temp of the body is normally around 98.6) melts it. It dissolves into your blood stream via the mucus membrane in your anal cavity (or vaginal cavity). And boy, they can work quite quickly!
Suppositories are designed to melt inside your body. WHen you use a suppository it melts causing your body to absorb whatever medicine was in the suppository you used.
Yeah, leave 'em in there. They've got to stay in there so they can melt and get absorbed into your bloodstream. Putting something up there can give you the urge to poop, but try to resist--at least for an hour or two, so that the medicine can get absorbed into your blood (unless, of course, it was a laxative suppository, and then, by all means POOP! )
Also, contrary to popular assumption, the suppository goes in flat-end-first, not pointy-end-first. This way, when it gets up in there, the natural contractions of the surrounding muscles will push against the sides of the tapering end, thus pushing the suppository further up into the rectal vault, where the lining is more suited for absorption.
